I recently picked up a collection of 1960's Postcards from eBay. Being relatively unaware of the fad for collecting Postcards and Promo Cards in the 60's, I was pleasantly surprised by what turned up in the padded envelope!
The parcel contained a selection of (rather worn) postcards and promo cards from among others; The Beatles, Elvis, The Animals, Herman's Hermits. They've obviously be pinned on some teenagers wall for years and form a fantastic snapshot of part of 60's pop culture.
From what I can gather some of these cards are manufactured by photographers who would invite touring Artists to sit for a portrait whilst in town. Others are promo cards produced by the Record Label to promote the Artist's latest release.
Here are a few Valex cards:
Billy Fury Valex (124)
The Beatles V64
Paul McCartney V66
The Beatles V76
Paul McCartney V72
